Decided to venture out into the party to brush my teeth and was immediately attacked by our Argentinian roommate who was confused why I was brushing my teeth since I never came out to drink with them. As I was walking back to my room, he and one of his friends asked me if I was going out with them. When I responded that I couldn’t tonight, they were perplexed because in Spain, it’s...

My roommates are currently hosting a going away party, therefore my options for the soundtrack to falling asleep are either:
a room full of italians singing classic party anthems like “Macerana” or “YMCA”
or I could dig up an old bedtime playlist and have the musical stylings of John Mayer whisk me off to dream land.
I’m thinking the latter will be a better plan,...

It's Official.
I am officially going to Ireland for St. Patrick’s Day with Taryn and Cooper.
Not only am I getting to visit Dublin and Galway, but I am also getting to go to London and Leeds.
Thus, this is going to be quite the experience to remember. It is sure to be filled with good times with new friends. Finally a time to embrace my Irish heritage, but probably not in the traditional Guinness...

Spanish teachers are really not shy about calling...
Yesterday in Spanish class, my teacher FINALLY called out the loud and obnoxious kid in my class and asked him to just straight up leave the class. She slipped it in with her lecture so smoothly.
Then today, during ethics, the teacher did a similar thing. He was talking and then pointed to a kid and told him to stop talking during class.
Kind of neat that teachers here don’t handle...

Always something to adapt to.
Since living here, it has become apparent just how different Madrid is from the United States, specifically from things that I am used to. It is causing me to truly appreciate the efficiency and technology that we utilize in America.
Just a few examples to provide some food for thought:
In the States, we are accustomed to having everything automated, everything run by a machine, so that we can...

One thought that never crossed my mind: the commentators would be speaking Spanish. Now I really have no hope of understanding.

Fulfilling American Stereotypes
So today Kaitlyn and I fulfilled american stereotypes, not once, but twice.
We were instructed to go to the photocopier and ask them to make copies of our spanish class course pack. After wandering around and asking questions of how to get there, we finally found the photocopier. We were told to bring paper with us because at the school, you don’t have to pay for ink, just provide the...

First day of classes tomorrow.
I am a little nervous because I am not sure which classes to go to, since some are listed more than once, and where to go for others. Basically, I don’t know how students cope with this level of disorganization. I feel like NC State does an extremely good job at keeping schedules organized. Let’s just hope that Kaitlyn and I don’t make fools out of...

There is something so refreshing of being somewhere completely new and that you are continually amazed and in love with.
Madrid is the polar opposite of anything that I am used to, even in respect to big cities like New York. That’s because Spain has the history. Spain has the delicate specificity in the architecture. Every nook and cranny was purposefully placed in it’s location...
